TEACHERS

The Western PA Writing Project is a teacher-centered, teacher led professional development program. Since 1982,  thousands of teachers from kindergarten to college and across all content areas have participated in the WPWP’s institutes, school inservices, writing retreats and community events.

The power of the WPWP comes from its core of dedicated teachers.  We believe that teachers are the best teachers of teachers, and we believe that teachers who write are the best teachers of writing.

Teachers who complete the Summer Institute for Teachers become WPWP fellows and members of the National Writing Project, an organization with over 200 sites throughout the United States. Fellows bring enhanced practices and resources to their school districts. They have ongoing opportunities to continue their professional development through WPWP writing workshops, courses and other writing activities, teaching in the Young Writers Institute, classroom inquiry and reflection, providing professional development services to teachers, and guiding and shaping WPWP’s programs through working groups and Open Fellows meetings. Most importantly, they become part of a professional community centered on teaching and writing to improve learning and student achievement.

The WPWP welcomes teachers from all grade and content areas and from public, private and parochial schools.
