40th Anniversary

WPWP Celebrates 40 Years

The Western Pennsylvania Writing Project is celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year! To commemorate this milestone, we are planning a series of events throughout the year, each designed to honor our rich history, celebrate our current achievements, and anticipate the exciting paths that lie ahead. Join us as we celebrate four decades of impact, community, and the written word.

Writing Marathon

May 1-31, 2024

During the month of May, we will be hosting a writing marathon across Western Pennsylvania by inviting people to visit local museums, cemeteries, parks, bridges, schools, and anywhere they can draw inspiration.

Writing Marathon Read Around

Frick Environmental Center

Following the conclusion of the Writing Marathon, we will gather for a Read Around to share our writings in fellowship and reflection. All are welcome and refreshments will be served.

Mark your calendars for a day at the park filled with writing and making. Designed to be a family-friendly occasion, we invite you to embrace the joy and exploration of writing. Various individuals, organizations, and authors will host spaces for you to write and explore.

Join us for the culminating event of our Celebration. An unforgettable evening at the vibrant intersections of memory and writing, this event is designed to foster relationships, encourage conversations, and establish new connections amidst the backdrop of remarkable PoeArt displays. The focus of the evening will be a chat with past directors and brief remarks from the director. Hors d'oeuvres and dessert will be served and we will offer a livestream option for the chat.
